Nintendo's Holiday Treat: F-Zero 99 Update Brings Winter Wonderland and Elite Challenges
Brace yourself, racers! Nintendo has unleashed a winter-themed update for F-Zero 99, transforming the battle royale racer into a snowy spectacle. But that's not all; the update also introduces a host of new features and improvements, ensuring players have plenty to explore.
Here's a breakdown of the thrilling additions:
- Frozen Tour Event: Get ready for a chilly adventure! From December 15, 2025, to January 19, 2026, all tracks will be blanketed in snow, creating a unique racing experience. Collect Gem Sparks to unlock exclusive event rewards.
- Frozen World Tour: This fan-favorite returns with a twist! Compete in nine three-lap races across F-ZERO worlds to earn points and aim for the top spot. The high-score rankings will be featured on a weekly leaderboard, with a special badge awarded to those in 999th place or higher.
- Elite Leaderboard: A new challenge awaits skilled pilots! S20+ racers will now be ranked globally on the Elite leaderboard, which resets every three months. But beware; you must race at least once after each reset to maintain your position.
- S50 Elite Status: Achieving S50 grants you a prestigious Falcon emblem during races. Compete for global rankings based on Elite points, earned through races against S50 Elite Rivals. But remember, only races against S49 or higher count towards these points.
- Lucky Tokens: These tokens add a fun twist! Earn one token daily, with a maximum of six, to play Lucky Ranks. Leveling up or matching without tokens can unlock additional tokens.
- Secret Tracks: Three new tracks will surprise players, appearing occasionally in F-ZERO 99 and Mini Prix modes. And the best part? They're more frequent than ever!
- Music Player: Customize your racing experience with a personal soundtrack. Access it from the Workshop menu and jam out while you race.
- Pilot Card Customization: Personalize your Pilot Card with 20 backdrops obtained through Lucky Ranks and eight emotes from limited-time challenges. Set them up via the Workshop menu.
And there's more! Various adjustments and fixes have been implemented to enhance the overall experience. Skill rating gains and losses have been rebalanced, making it easier to climb the ranks. The Mystery Rank in Lucky Ranks now offers a chance at double Bounty Chips.
